The Squirrel Funeral
We pulled into the driveway this afternoon and my daughter wanted to go over to our neighbor's fence and visit with their dog. My son, of course, followed her. I went in to put our stuff in the house. That is when I heard my daughter yelling for me: "MAMA!!!" I could tell there was a certain urgency to her voice. So, I ran outside. We met up in the yard. She had a very upset look on her face. "Mom, I just, the poor little thing, I don't know what to do..." She wasn't making any sense. I thought something was wrong with the dog. So, I followed her over there. She was pointing at the ground a couple feet in front of their fence. The dog was barking like crazy! I looked down and saw a big, gray, deceased squirrel. That is when the real commotion ensued. My daughter wanted to pick it up for inspection and petting. I told her no, we don't know what it died from. It might be carrying some dreaded disease. So, daughter, son and I got the shovel and went out in the back yard. I dug a hole. We all went back out front with a t-shirt/rag from the garage. I picked up the squirrel and wrapped it in the rag. My daughter was having a fit to pet it. "Please Mama, PLEASE!!!" Finally, when we made it to the grave site, I did let her pet it on it's back a little. (I made her promise she would not touch anything or anybody afterwards until she had washed her hands.) That little pet seemed to satisfy her. Afterwards, I wrapped him up in the rag. We put a pine cone in for him and then buried him. R.I.P. little guy.

Lazy Saturday
This morning I woke up to my little girl waking me up. She had gotten my husband/her Daddy up and asked him to help her fix me breakfast in bed. So there they were, my hubby holding the Barbie TV tray with my breakfast. How sweet is that??? She was so excited to be getting to do this. She and hubby had made scrambled eggs and an Eggo waffle and chocolate milk. She and I shared the breakfast in bed. She is such a sweet girl. I am so proud of her. Also, hubby is pretty great too for getting up early on a Saturday morning to fulfill her wishes.
After that I got up and started the overdue housecleaning. I picked up and vacuumed. The upstairs is looking great. Now I need to clean downstairs and keep working on the pile of laundry. I also need to study. I am really behind on my Math homework. I have got to practice how to do it before the test rolls around. And I need to study my Micro because I have a test in that this week. It is a hard chapter and I am thinking I will never learn it!!!! It is all about bacterial DNA. It is interesting but difficult for me to understand and remember it all.
I took my Midterm Practical in Micro this past Thursday. I think I did well. But he hasn't posted them to the web yet. I will be glad to see exactly how I did. He had given us a study sheet for the midterm. He said "if it's not on the review sheet, it won't be on the test." He lied. Why do professors do that???? I know of 3 questions that he had on the test that were not on the review sheet. One I had to leave blank 'cause I had no idea what the answer was. I couldn't even think of a good guess!!! When I turned my paper in I asked him what the answer was. He said "Mycobacterium." WTH??? I know that was NOT on that review sheet. But I know better than to even bring it up to him. It won't do any good. So, hopefully I got all the rest of the test right.
Okay, I am going now to get my butt in gear and study.

First Post of My New Blog
I am a 40-year-old woman who has two small children, a husband, two cats and a home. A little over a year ago, I decided to go back to school to become a registered nurse. This blog will be about that journey as well as personal stuff along the way. I hope you enjoy it. I think I will enjoy writing it.
So, last spring semester I took Anatomy and Physiology Part I, Math 101 and Psychology (Human Growth and Development). I absolutely loved getting back into school. I know, that sounds really weird, but I do love school. This is funny because I hated school during high school. Oh well. Then last summer (2006) I took Anatomy and Physiology Part II and Math (Probability and Statistics.) I have really been fortunate to get really awesome professors. Those courses gave me enough to get a "PreNursing Certificate" which is not really a paper certificate. But it is a way to get into the nursing program here. I was given a slot for January 2008. So, I have a year to wait.
I hate having to wait. But I am trying to spend my time wisely. Last Fall I took the semester off. This semester I am taking Microbiology and Math 102 (Algebra.) I have two professors that are out-of-this-world wonderful. Again, I am loving it. I get to go out into the world and be around other adults and have adult conversations without any children interupting me. It is wonderful.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my kids. But, I have been a stay-at-home Mom for 7 years now and I am ready to get back out into the adult world. I am not cut out to be home forever. I think my children are better off when I am happy. Like the saying goes: "If Mama ain't happy, nobody is happy!" I agree with that.
I think that is enough for my first post. I have to go get the children to bed.
Good Night
